Wilberforce, Slavery & Abolition

Ranald Macaulay points out that the attention paid to the European enslavement of Africa between 1450 and 1833 has been disproportionate. Too many commentators have failed to draw attention to other examples of slavery. Or they have focussed on western slavery to try to discredit everything western, in particular its Judaeo-Christian ethic. Greater attention needs to be paid to the fact that it was those with clear Christian convictions, more than any others, who managed to stop slavery. Ranald's booklet is a 'must' as he challenges the misconceptions about slavery which are so widely held today.
