In our confused culture, with multitudes of mixed messages, the universal desire for intimacy can lead to much pain.

‘The Search for Sexual Sanity’ will develop both the theory and the practice of counselling others on issues of sexual abuse, sexual addiction, pornography and homosexuality. Designed for anyone who would like to develop understanding, discernment and application whilst working within a Biblical framework, the course will also examine the complexities of marriage counselling.

OUR SPEAKER

Returning after a sell-out 2012 course, Richard Winter is Professor of Practical Theology and Director of Covenant Theological Seminary’s Master’s degree in Counselling in St Louis, Missouri. He teaches pastoral counselling to Master of Divinity students and prepares the Master of Counselling students to become Licensed Professional Counsellors in a three-year programme. He also has a psychotherapy/counselling practice.

Before moving to Covenant, Richard served as staff and director of the English L’Abri Fellowship for 14 years. Prior to working at L’Abri he worked as a medical doctor and psychiatrist in Bristol and was a member of The Royal College of Psychiatrists. For the last few years he has led the counselling track at the European Leadership Forum in Hungary. His long term interest has been researching and teaching at the interface between psychology, medicine, and theology.   Richard is the author of When Darkness Falls: Finding Hope in the Midst of Depression (IVP 2012).  Perfecting Ourselves to Death: The Pursuit of Excellence and the Perils of Perfectionism (IVP 2005); and Still Bored in a Culture of Entertainment: Rediscovering Passion and Wonder (IVP 2002). Richard is married and loves to spend time with his four children, their spouses and seven grandchildren on each side of the Atlantic.

''Richard Winter carries with him a wealth of experience in counselling, both as a practitioner and as a teacher. All this is under girded by a passion for theology and worldview thinking. I cannot recommend this course too highly.''
Andrew Fellows, Director of English L'Abri
