Reflecting on:

Making Christ Real in Contemporary Culture

Further Apologetics

20 - 24 July 2009

To a core, dedicated group of leaders, David Robertson led an inspiring and challenging course on apologetics in today's world.  Here's what the delegates had to say:

''I loved the way David’s knowledge of history, philosophy, and theology helped him connect the truth with culture''

''The course re-inspired commitment to evangelism and apologetic pastoral care, and offered useful practical ideas for using apologetics in church work.''

Cynicism and apathy surround us. How can local churches make an impact on their communities when major intellectual and social obstacles stand in the way?

Many think the basic truths of the Bible are implausible, even immoral. How do we enter into the market place of ideas? How do we overcome the attitude that Christians are closed in their thinking, judgmental and hypocritical?

The course aims to give Christians a practical basis for communicating the whole Gospel to the whole community by the whole church – in short, how best to communicate Christ in contemporary culture.

This includes:

  • The Marketplace of Ideas – understanding our culture and what makes it tick – eg. the media, advertising, consumerism etc.
  • The Academy – challenging intellectual assumptions in universities and colleges
  • The Work Place – speaking out on ethical and religious issues
  • The Home  – showing personal hospitality
  • The Local Church – attracting the local community through worship, teaching and  prayer
  • Equipping – learning to be flexible and winsome in our individual conversations.
