A Biblical Approach To counselling
CAMBRIDGE SUMMER SCHOOL OF COUNSELLING with Richard Winter
2nd - 6th July 2012 WESTMINSTER COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE
COURSE IS NOW FULLY BOOKED - our apologies for any disappointment caused.
We hope to run the course again in 2013 with increased CAPACITY.
By studying the relationship between theology, psychology and counselling, 'A Biblical Approach to Counselling' will build a framework for Christian counselling. Designed for anyone who would like to develop understanding, discernment and practical application in caring and counselling, the course will explore issues of grief and depression, anger and forgiveness, anxiety and fear, perfectionism, homosexuality, shame and addictions.
Theory and practice will be held hand in hand throughout, as skills are developed in listening, reflecting, paraphrasing, asking good questions and facilitating change.
The provisional course schedule can be viewed here (subject to change).
OUR SPEAKER
Richard Winter is currently Professor of Practical Theology and Director of Covenant Theological Seminary’s Master’s degree in Counselling in St Louis, Missouri. Richard is British and before coming to Covenant, served as staff and director of the English L’Abri Fellowship for 14 years. Prior to working at L’Abri he worked as a medical doctor and psychiatrist in Bristol and was a member of The Royal College of Psychiatrists. He has served in a variety of pastoral and teaching leadership roles in the church. For the last few years he has led the counselling track at the European Leadership Forum in Hungary. His long term interest has been researching and teaching at the interface between psychology, medicine, and theology
He is working on a new edition of his book The Roots of Sorrow: Reflections on Depression and Hope, Crossway, 1988. The new title is When Darkness Falls: Finding Hope in the Midst of Depression (IVP). He is the author of Perfecting Ourselves to Death: The Pursuit of Excellence and the Perils of Perfectionism, IVP, April 2005; Still Bored in a Culture of Entertainment: Rediscovering Passion and Wonder, IVP, 2002; Choose Life, A study of abortion and other reproductive technologies (Out of Print), and professional journal articles.
Richard is married and loves to spend time with his four children, their spouses and seven grandchildren on each side of the Atlantic. He and his wife, Jane, who is a floral designer (www.wildflowersstl.com), love to sail, garden, hike, and cook together.
''Richard Winter carries with him a wealth of experience in counselling, both as a practitioner and as a teacher. All this is under girded by a passion for theology and worldview thinking. I cannot recommend this course too highly.'' Andrew Fellows, Director of English L'Abri
