CSST seeks to rekindle an excitement about 'Big Picture' theology - the 'height, depth and breadth,' of the Christian view of reality laid out through the pages of scripture.
Most Christians would agree that mission is biblically based. However, what is less often recognised is the fact that the bible is itself a missional phenomenon - since it is the witness to, and product of, the mission of God. How might recognising this fundamental truth affect the way we think and act? What does the Bible really have to say about mission? How can we put this into practice effectively?
Chris Wright, the author of The Mission of God, will be digging down into the Bible’s wide-ranging teaching on the subject, providing a biblical theology of God’s mission. However, they his lectures also address some of the practical questions and struggles common to all Christians pursuing a successful practice of the mission that belongs to God’s people.
• What is the scope and scale of God's mission? • What, then, is included within the mission of God's people? • Is mission only for cross-cultural missionaries? • How does a missional framework of thinking affect the way we read the whole Bible • What does the Old Testament have to contribute to a Christian understanding and practice of mission?
CSST is designed for those who would like to deepen their understanding of the central beliefs of Christianity. The course is not for specialists or theologians yet it will assume a basic understanding of and grounding in the faith.
Our speaker: Chris Wright

Chris Wright studied Classics and Theology at Cambridge and after a spell of school teaching, returned to complete his doctorate on Old Testament economic ethics. This was later published under the title God’s People in God’s Land (Eerdmans and Paternoster). He has since been ordained in the Anglican Church of England and served as an assistant pastor in the Parish Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Tonbridge, Kent, England. He spent time in India with his wife Liz and their children in the 1980s, teaching the OT at UBS, Pune, and then was involved in international mission training at All Nations Christian College, where he was Principal for eight years. In September 2001 he was appointed to his present role as the International Director of the Langham Partnership International. Indeed, John Stott has said, “I can’t think of anyone better suited to lead the global Langham movement than Dr. Chris Wright.” He continues to write, and has authored a number of books on the Old Testament and its relevance to Christian mission and ethics. He and his wife Liz live in London, share in the ministry of All Souls Church, Langham Place, and are blessed with four adult children and six grandchildren.

Comments from CSST 2009, led by Jerram Barrs:
"Thanks very much for all your hard work in presenting the Cambridge Summer School of Theology. Jerram Barrs's lectures on sanctification were excellent and the fellowship was most enjoyable. I pray that your work will expand. The CSST fills a critical gap in the body of Christ today by providing theological and spiritual formation for the thoughtful believer at a level that most churches are unable to offer. As such, it is a great complement to the church and an important resource in equipping potential leaders in a day when theologically sound, spiritually vibrant leadership is desperately needed." Thomas A. Tarrants, III, President C.S. Lewis Institute
“Jerram, with his gentle and gracious demeanor, has unpacked, in a practical way, what it is to be on a journey to sanctification. Sanctification was before a theological concept more than anything else. It is now something I can hope in the Lord to impact at every level of my life starting with the inner heart.”
“Jerram’s love of God shone through all his lectures. He is an inspiring speaker who has a wonderful gift of making those listening challenge their preconceptions and see great truths in a fresh and living way.”
“The reality of a sanctified life encourages me to see how much the Holy Spirit can change us as we seek to follow the Law of the Lord from our heart.”
“God really used it to teach me about my need for daily dependence on him to live every part of my life. Gave me great teaching to help me think through my ministry more.”
